Why do you think it is so important to teach Information Literacy to college students?

When I first came to Ottawa University, I saw how students struggled with writing their papers, and especially with following APA exactly and citing their sources. A few years ago, I learned how colleges were implementing information literacy programs, and collaborating with other faculty and departments to improve student writing...this gave me hope that librarians could aid/support their peers in helping to improve student writing skills.
