Ottawa University Gangwish Library Technology Policy

Ottawa University, Gangwish Library Technology Checkout Policies

  • Checkouts of technology items are available to Ottawa University Students, Staff and Faculty Only.
  • Library Technology items are not available for Interlibrary Loan.
  • Public Patrons with OU Library cards may not check out Library Technology items.
  • OU Alumni may borrow Library Technology items, but those may not leave the OU Library Building. Alumni may leave a Driver’s License at the front desk while the item is borrowed.
  • A current OUID AND a valid OU Library Card ARE required to borrow technologies.
  • High-value items will require users to have a signed "Gangwish Library Technology Lending Agreement" form on file each semester. A signature is required before checkout (kept on file at the Service Desk) acknowledging the user has received, read, understands, and agrees to abide by all user policies as outlined by the OU Library.
  • Once this agreement is signed users must sign the "Gangwish Library Borrower's Agreement."
  • All items are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are required for any technology items.
  • Technology items are checked out for a period of three days.
  • Only one renewal per item is allowed. No second renewal is allowed.
  • Students going on university sports trips or field trips may reach out to the Library Director to checkout technology for longer than two checkout periods.
  • Limit: 1 of each item (e.g. each patron may only checkout 1 Technology at a time, 1 Hotspot at a time, etc.)
  • Renewals: Over-the-phone or online catalog renewals are available. Technology items must be returned to the Library Service Desk when the library is open. Please do not use the inside or outside book drop when the library is closed for technology returns.
  • Please do not return technology by leaving it on the circulation desk if there when there is NOT staff member present. Please return all technology by handing it to a library staff member and stay while it is checked in.
  • Save & delete your content; the OU Gangwish Library is not responsible for deleting or retaining content on technology devices.
  • Equipment cannot be used in violation of the law or of Ottawa University policies or Kansas state laws and regulations.
  • Responsibility: You are responsible for overdue, lost, or damaged equipment and peripherals. Overdue fines are automatically applied to your Student Account for all equipment returned late ($5 a day per checked-out item for daily equipment).

STUDENT SPECIFIC POLICY

  • Students may not make audio or video recordings of classes without the advance written permission of the instructor. Students may use such recordings only for course purposes, may not distribute them outside the class, and are expected to destroy the recordings at the conclusion of the course term.

FINES AND LOST TECHNOLOGY

  • Currently, there are no fines for late books unless those are not returned, but there will be an exception for technology late returns.
  • Billing: Keeping items out past their initial due date will result in late notices sent to your email address. When you receive a third notice you will be billed for the full cost of the item.  Returning it will remove this bill and replace it with overdue fines.
  • Late fines are $1 per day.
  • A technology item may be renewed but only ONCE so that it might be available to other library patrons.
  • All Library materials have replacement costs for lost or damaged items, as well as overdue fees; by borrowing items from the OU Gangwish Library the user is responsible for the replacement value of all items and acknowledges that they understand and agree to all policies as outlined by the library.
  • Users will assume a $15.00 processing charge plus the cost of the item for all damaged or lost items regardless of whether a replacement fee is assessed, or the item is under warranty e.g. if a hotspot is lost the calculated cost would be $50 + $15= $65.
  • Fines for lost and damaged items that have not been settled with the Gangwish Library will be charged to the OUID and will need to be paid at the business office.
